Consistently outstanding performance at A*

St Mary’s girls, Cambridge proved today that #yesshecan - this year has seen our girls equal last year’s best-ever performance at A* at GCSE with 40% of grades being awarded at A* or equivalent.

Building on success in our A Level results last week, success in the visual and performing arts also continues unabated:

- Drama – 64% at A* or equivalent

- Textiles – 52% A* or equivalent

- Art – 48% A* or equivalent


With additional subjects performing extremely well:

- Biology – 64% A* or equivalent

- Geography – 53% A* or equivalent


Rosie Elderton, who achieved 10 9’s and 1 A*, including a subject mark of 234/240 in Maths, as well as an A in FSMQ Additional Maths, was delighted with her results and looks forward to going on to study all STEM subjects at A Level. Rosie commented: “St Mary's encourages you in all aspects of school life: academia, extra-curricular and creative subjects.”


Bella Tam, who has been at St Mary's from St Mary's Junior Reception class and who achieved seven 9's, two 8's and an A*, said: "I wouldn't go to any other school. I am looking forward to studying here at St Mary's Sixth Form."

Charlotte Avery, Headmistress and Vice-President of the Girls’ School Association, said: “I am thrilled to be celebrating another year of excellent results with our students. It is fantastic to see that their hard work, and the dedication of our teaching staff, has been richly rewarded.”


Deputy Head (Academic), Stephen Seidler, commented: “Last week’s A Level results saw our students head off on exciting paths, from Civil Engineering at Nottingham to History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Today’s GCSE results will enable our students to go on to diverse and inspiring A Level studies and have set them up for future success at university and beyond.”
