Clayesmore’s Young Enterprise company, ‘AFriend’ has won the Dorset company of the year for the second year in a row, and will be off to represent the county in the South West Regional Finals in Bristol. Clayesmore’s company was the top out of ten companies presenting at the Dorset round of the national competition. The company is a social enterprise with the mission to give people between the ages of 12-17 a safe place to share their thoughts, issues and problems and to provide a friendly ear for anyone with a problem of any size.
The company, comprised of Year 12 pupils, has created their own website and instagram account to spread their message and also held assemblies in school. There is a blog on the website where articles so far have covered many topics common to young people – friendship issues, parental divorce, breakups and studying overseas among them, alongside personal areas of interest including Brexit and environmental issues such as the use of palm oil. In the next months, the group hopes to expand its current projects by creating AFriend ambassadors who would be able to meet personally with people who need someone to talk to in the school’s community and continue to add to its blog and social media with relevant information.
