Having experienced a rather choppy Channel crossing to Calais, they arrived in Rotterdam in the early afternoon. After quickly checking into the hotel, there was to be no rest as the children were put through their paces with the first coaching session at HC Rotterdam. The facilities at the club were outstanding and the coaches were very good indeed.
Over the course of the six-day tour, the children enjoyed four coaching sessions with various coaches from HC Rotterdam and they played in a series of three match days. All of the matches were well-balanced in terms of relative ability and strength and some excellent hockey was played by all. There were some tough matches, but the boys and girls handled and equipped themselves extremely well. The U13A girls' team in particular, did very well, winning four of their five matches. The U13A boys' team played some fantastic hockey at times and were unlucky to lose three of their matches against HC Rotterdam by the odd goal.
Besides the hockey side of the tour, there were many enjoyable excursions, such as the famous Pancake Cruise in Amsterdam and a visit to a brand new attraction at ‘This is Holland’, where the children and staff were ‘flown’ over Holland in a simulator. There was also a day spent at Eefteling Theme Park and tickets to a football match between PSV Eindhoven and Heracles.
The tour to Rotterdam was a fantastic success and all of the children were fine ambassadors for the school.
