Their topic was exploring characters in books, most notably the classic nursery tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Caroline Houston, Hazlegrove’s Nursery teacher said, " We are so lucky to have this beautiful wood on our school grounds and that all children from ages 2 1/2 to 13 have access to a wonderful Forest School education . The children became totally engaged in joining in with the actions as we stomped around the woods and built the three bears’ beds from sticks. They pretended to make porridge from oats and found little hollows in trees in which to cook it, the expressions on their little faces as they pretended to eat the porridge was delightful!’
She added, ‘Using their imagination and enacting stories within a believable setting is beginning to lay all those important foundations of learning, such as developing their self-confidence and language skills as they begin to negotiate ideas with one another. They are encouraged to look closely at their surroundings as they search for props whilst learning to show care for living things and their environment’.
