A Form 6 student from Oakham School has received a Gold International Global Citizen’s award, recognising her commitment to finding out about other cultures and outlooks and helping to make the world a better place.

Laura is one of fewer than 100 people in the world to have been honoured with this award and the first gold recipient in the UK. She was presented with her certificate after giving a final presentation about her work.

Laura’s portfolio showing what she has done and learnt is impressive and includes spending a week on a tall ship with abled and disabled people, learning about the Chad Basin conflict and giving an assembly to the Lower School. She has also given a talk to Lower 1 pupils about global footprints and undertaken a French exchange.

Teacher of Geography Mrs Caroline Simpson said, “We are very proud of Laura. It has taken her 3 years to reach this point having had to work through the Bronze and Silver levels first. Her determination, dedication and stamina to this cause is to be applauded.”
