18th November 2019 — The Season of Goodwill is nearly upon us, and parents, pupils and staff at Beechwood Park School have proved that being charitable is something we can achieve every day, not just at Christmas.

Steve Albon, Regional Fundraiser for Keech Hospice Care, visited the School last week to receive a cheque for £20,000, which was presented to him during assembly. In thanking the School, Steve emphasised the reliance that the charity places on fundraising and he highlighted the fact that this donation brings the total sum raised by the Beechwood Park School Parents’ Association over the last 20 years, to a staggering £235,000. He explained that Keech does not just provide care at their Hospice in Luton but also in hospitals, in schools, in care situations or in the family home, where their network of community nurses can also provide invaluable support. To put this sum of money into perspective, the total donation from Beechwood Park School has covered the cost of providing six entire years’ support from a Keech community nurse.

Edward Balfour, Beechwood Park’s Headmaster, commented “We are absolutely delighted to continue our close association with Keech Hospice. Our parents’ association has been a significant fundraiser, working tirelessly to raise money for Keech Hospice, from its inception and throughout the entire life of this important and very deserving local charity.”

Keech Hospice Care, based near Luton, provides free, specialist care for adults in Luton and south Bedfordshire, and children from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes, who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

Beechwood Park (Coed 3-13) is a day and boarding school in Hertfordshire.
