21st November 2019 — Adam Peaty used the Repton School Sports Centre swimming pool as his main training venue in the five years leading up to his historic gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The multi-million pound investment in the Sports Centre has created state-of-the-art facilities including a strength and conditioning gym, new sports hall, physiotherapy room and conference and team spaces.

Addressing the crowd, Peaty thanked Repton School for continuing to invest in its sports provision and providing facilities for local communities. He highlighted the importance of the key role that sport plays in young peoples’ wellbeing, both physically and mentally, and emphasised his belief that without access to Repton’s facilities, his coach Melanie Marshall, and support from Repton School staff including Sports Centre Manager Leanne Chandler, he would not have gone on to become such an accomplished athlete.

He also expressed his excitement for the launch of Repton’s new ambitious swimming programme which will see the School position itself as a nationally-ranked performance centre and community club.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Governors, Sir Henry Every Bt DL, commented: “Repton’s Aims and Ethos include producing young people that are resilient, robust, and determined team players. One of the best ways of achieving that is through sport. These redeveloped facilities allow everyone here at Repton to have a go and be inspired. Sport at Repton is truly for all. “

The sports facilities at Repton now include a new sports hall, strength and conditioning gym, squash courts, changing rooms, and conference and café facilities.

Repton School (Coed 13-18) is a day and boarding school in Derbyshire.
