National Recognition for Academic Enrichment by Canford Pupils

Published essays, STEM competition success and Cambridge University Summer School award are the latest academic enrichment programme successes by Canfordians

21st October 2021 — Canford is hugely proud of Catherine, Katie and Sophia for their outstanding achievements in recent academic enrichment projects. The Bulletin of Advanced Spanish is a termly online publication covering a broad range of news and culture from the Spanish-speaking world. Catherine's published essay in the latest edition discussed Indigenous People's Day versus Columbus Day and was very relevant to our recent #blackhistorymonth celebrations and #FestivalofIdeas #CanfordFOI21 #inclusion You can read the full submission on the Canford Blog www.canford.com/blog

Katie has won a place on the Empowered Females STEM programme from among 600 pupils across the country in a competition run by Upskill Me and will spend the next six months accessing monthly masterclasses conducted by career specialists and leading women in STEM, including mentoring from dedicated women working at Google, Facebook, Atkins, UCB, WSP Johnson and Matthey, Lendlease, Macquarie and RBCCM. An amazing opportunity, ending with a gala event at the Google HQ in London in March 2022.

Sophia was awarded one of the top prizes in the Immerse Education History essay competition for her imaginative answer to the question "Which three famous figures from History would you invite to a dinner party?" Sophia selected Hypatia of Alexandra, Mary Wollstonecraft and Dowager Empress Cixi of China - find out why by reading her piece on the Canford blog www.canford.com/blog. She will spend two weeks next summer staying at a Cambridge College working with expert academic tutors from Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard Universities.
