Ealing Abbey Choir’s first girl choristers

For the first time in its 111- year history, Ealing Abbey Choir is including girls in its intake of new choristers.

9th November 2021 — Three girls and five boys – all in Year 4 at St Benedict’s School – have successfully auditioned to take their first steps to becoming choristers, by joining the choir this term as Probationers.

Sabrina said: “I am really enjoying being part of the Abbey Choir. I am very passionate about singing and love going to choir practice. It is exciting being involved with something so special."

Grace added: "I am very happy to be a new girl chorister. I think it is going to be amazing being a member of the choir. I really enjoy participating in choir practices and going to services in the Abbey."

Emmeline commented: 'I am extremely excited to be a member of the choir. I really enjoy going to choir practice and I think my singing has improved a great deal!'

The choir sings each Sunday in the Abbey Church at 10:30am Mass, at Christmas and Easter.

In recent years the choir has toured the United States, Poland, Barcelona, Vienna, Switzerland, Hungary and Rome. Its musical repertoire includes works by twentieth century composers such as Howells, Duruflé, Messiaen and Taverner, as well as Gregorian chant and Latin polyphony.

St Benedict's School (Coed 3-18) is a day school in West London.
