25th November 2021 — The Careers Department and Development & Alumni Department at St Peter’s School have launched a new mentoring programme for pupils in the Lower Sixth Form.

The project brings together Old Peterites and current Lower Sixth pupils to help the pupils develop the skills required for life after school.

The scheme officially launched on Wednesday 10 November and 42 pupils will be participating in the project this term, supported by seven Old Peterites who will deliver the mentoring sessions.

Each mentor has been allocated six pupils, and the pupils had the opportunity to choose their mentors. Mentoring sessions will be held every Thursday from 8.30am - 9am for five weeks and are being delivered both in person and virtually via Zoom.

Topics covered include interview skills, decision-making and future planning.

Another group of pupils will benefit from the mentoring scheme in the Easter term, and the remaining pupils will participate in the scheme in the summer term. All Lower Sixth pupils will have been mentored by the end of the year.

Philippa Dunford-Jeffs, Development & Alumni Manager at St Peter’s, said:

“We are delighted that we’ve had such a positive response from the Old Peterite Community to this programme and that they have been so happy and willing to volunteer their time, and share their experiences with the pupils in this way. It’s a wonderful opportunity for pupils to hear first-hand about the many experiences of Old Peterites, as they themselves begin to plan their next steps after St Peter’s.”

St Peter's School York (Coed 2-18) is a day and boarding school in Yorkshire.
