A student at Sedbergh School has won a full scholarship to study golf at East Tennessee State University in the USA.
Archie Davies, Year 13, is a keen golfer from Carlisle who had a very successful Summer, winning the Irish Boys Amateur Open and representing Wales in the European Boys Team Championships in Czech Republic.
Sedbergh’s Headmaster, Dan Harrison, was delighted that Archie had won this prestigious scholarship.
Mr Harrison said, ‘He is a hugely talented individual, but equally he matches this with a tremendous work ethic.
‘He will be up against some exceptional individuals in the US university system, but we have every faith in him to succeed.’ Mr Harrison also noted how this reflected a growing trend for Sedberghians to consider other options besides UK universities.
He said, ‘In an ever-changing world, we must prepare our pupils for all the opportunities that lie beyond 18 and make sure they are as prepared for the next step as possible.’
