U11 Bedford Prep hockey team won the County Hockey Festival at Sharnbrook Academy on Thursday 1 February. Good early wins against Sharnbrook and Bedford Modern School meant that the team went into their final game against Bloomfield School with the knowledge that a win would secure the county title and a place in the regional tournament. The final game proved challenging and was a hard-fought, defensive match for the boys. However, some fine transfers in the second half relieved the pressure and the boys showed off their best hockey of the term so far to win the match 1-0. The team now progresses to the regional festival at Gresham’s in Norfolk on Wednesday 28 February.
It was also smiles all round as the U13 Bedford Prep School hockey team won their IAPS qualifier at St Faiths School on Friday 2 January to secure their place in the national finals. The team achieved a great set of results, with five wins and two draws, including an impressive 3-0 win over the hosts St Faiths, who they had lost to 1-0 just days before. The team was formidable in attack, with Joshua Stewart putting in an impressive performance as the main scorer of the day, and equally strong in defence.
Sam Mee, Director of Hockey, commented: “I was delighted with the team’s excellent performance as well as their great attitude and team spirit. They outperformed nearly every team on the day but need to ensure that they take advantage of every chance that presents itself to take their game to the next level.”
The national finals at Milford School take place on Tuesday 20 March 2018.
