The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang opened last week with a spectacular display of fireworks and a show of unity between Korean athletes from north and south of the border. For many in the UCS community, the highlight will be when the former pupil of University College School, Itamar Biran, races in the men’s slalom and giant slalom. Itamar attended UCS from 2009 to 2016 and he combined studying with a demanding training regime in Les Houches, France. During the winter months, Itamar used to complete assignments online which enabled him to keep up with his studies at UCS and he was carefully mentored throughout this time by members of the school’s pastoral team. Itamar commented, “If it wasn’t for UCS, I wouldn’t be the athlete that I currently am and I would therefore not be able to make my childhood dream of becoming an Olympian. I am extremely grateful to the school and would personally like to thank Mr Allen and Mr Roberts who saw my potential and helped me during this time.”

The whole UCS community will be glued to their televisions on 18th and 22nd February when Itamar races. Go Ity!
