Sixty four schools across England compete each year in the prestigious Independent Schools’ Hockey Cup (ISHC) tournament. Reigate Grammar School’s Under 13 team were victorious in 2018 and this year’s side travelled to Redbridge on 14 March to defend the title.

The girls faced tough opposition, particularly in the semi-finals against a strong Bedford High School team. Despite being 2-0 down early in the game, the team fought back to finish 5-4 in a nail biting final few minutes. This put them through to the finals against the same team the school had defeated to become champions last year. With precision and skill, the team played top class hockey, with a final score of 5-0, to win the trophy for the second year in a row.

Head of hockey, Becks Wickham said “ The girls have embraced the hockey programme at RGS and their hard work and preparation was evident in each round of the competition. They played excellent hockey throughout, against some of the best teams in the country and it is wonderful that they have retained the national title. I am very proud of them all.”

Headmaster, Shaun Fenton said ‘ The girls’ have shown themselves to be true Reigatians, embracing team work, grit and determination whilst enjoying every step of the competition. I am delighted with their success!’
