Culford Rock Their Audience

A sell-out production of the musical We Will Rock You was performed at Culford at the beginning of March with great success.

Culford’s Drama, Dance and Music Department collaborated to work tirelessly with the pupil strong cast of 33, organising everything from choreography to professional sound and lighting. The live band were the perfect accompaniment for the fantastic musical numbers on the night, including Queen classics such as I Want to Break Free, We are the Champions and of course, We Will Rock You.

The west-end favourite was performed to audiences of more than 300 over three nights in Culford’s Centenary Hall.

The young performers, aged from just 14, displayed talent beyond their years, conveying the spirit and energy of the production wonderfully and bringing the story to life for the audience.

The response to the production has been incredible, with the cast receiving a full standing ovation across all three evenings.

Culford’s Director of Drama is delighted with the reaction and is incredibly proud of the pupils involved.

She said: “I think it is true to say that this has been the most energetic and all-encompassing musical production we have ever done at Culford. Audience members have all commented on the sense of enjoyment and enthusiasm that was tangible from the performers. There were some outstanding individual performances too; special mention must go to Emily Hope who played Scaramouche and Ellis Kilbane who played Galileo. They tackled the songs and characterisation with ease and it was like watching professional performers on stage. ”

The next Culford performance will take place on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 March. The Prep School will be performing Lost in Time, a production written by Culford Prep’s Head of Drama.

Culford is an independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 13 to 18 years, set in over 480 acres of stunning Suffolk parkland near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.
