The Year 5 Cricket team have a real love of the game and their enthusiasm has been fantastic to see this season. Back in March the U10As won the Warwickshire Kwik Cricket Festival in a tense final against Yarnfield Primary School. There were some excellent performances along the way, with Michael Draper’s superb batting, scoring 28 runs in the first over. At one stage, the team were cruising to victory but then three wickets were lost in four balls and Kairav Singh was called upon to bat with a huge amount of responsibility. He successfully led the team to win their final game and qualify for the regional finals.
The regional finals were played at the Edgbaston Foundation Ground towards the end of the summer term. The first three games were comfortable victories thanks to the destructive hitting of Yuvraj Kanda and Kairav Singh and then the accurate bowling from all members of the team. The final three games were far from easy, but some great bowling and fielding enabled us to defend a small total of 241 against St. Benedicts and in the last game a respectable 269 was enough to secure victory even if it did come down to the last ball! It was a thrilling day of cricket with excellent sportsmanship, congratulations boys on a well-deserved win to become the new Warwickshire County Champions!
