28th March 2019 — Lanesborough School was chosen to showcase our good practice at the Independent Schools RSE Forum held at Kingston Grammar in March 2019. Our head of PSHCE, Mrs Heath-Taylor and Mr Creal, Year 6 science teacher, paired up to lead a workshop and present a video showcasing our excellent provision of RSE from Nursery to Year 8.

At Lanesborough we believe it is right that our pupils need to grow up understanding the society that they live in – they need to grow up to respect each other, to seek equality and tolerate differences. We know it starts with the very young in the home, with important adults modelling healthy, loving interpersonal relationships. Then school gets involved as the EYFS requirements of PSED; personal, social and emotional education continue the learning journey. Like the roots of a tree, good relationships are grounded in trust, commitment, conflict resolution, empathy, integrity, respect, - all part of our Lanesborough Values system. The trunk and branches extend and grow as pupils draw on these roots and learn about familial relationships, friendships, romantic relationships, professional relationships and age-appropriate sexual relationships. These fruits are embedded within a scientific understanding of how our brains and bodies work and how we as humans are interconnected beings. At Lanesborough, we believe a holistic approach is the best one – which is why RSE is embedded in our whole school PSHCE programme of study. All staff work together to deliver a balanced provision of learning opportunities to foster healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy characters.
